How to Apply for Positions with Douglas County

Thank you for your interest in Douglas County employment. There are some requirements that you must completely satisfy prior to consideration for employment. They are as follows:

All applicants must complete a standard application form providing all requested information. It is the applicant's responsibility to provide all information completely and accurately (i.e. addresses, dates of employment, etc.). We reserve the right to reject any application which has not been fully completed. There are restrictions on the employment of relatives in some departments. Failure to provide all requested information or falsification of the application will remove you from consideration for employment. Resumes are accepted, but cannot be substituted for the application, nor may the application form be marked so as to make reference to a resume. Please type or print all information on the application.

All applicants must sign forms authorizing written verification of previous work experience. Applicants who desire to have relevant military experience considered must provide a copy of their DD-214. Applicants who apply for positions with educational requirements must be prepared to provide verification (i.e. college transcripts, certificates of course completion, etc.) by the end of the posting period. All documents submitted become the property of Douglas County. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that required documents are received by the DCCSC in a timely manner. All required pre-employment criteria and testing must be satisfied prior to consideration for any position(s). Clerical testing is conducted at the 1819 Farnam Office (Civic Center) office only.

All newly hired employees are required to complete employment eligibility procedures as established by the Immigration and Reform Act prior to beginning employment.

A criminal record check will be conducted for positions with the Corrections Department, the Sheriff's Office, County Hospital and other departments as warranted by position. Any falsification or omission with regard to criminal records will disqualify you from employment. YOU MUST INCLUDE ALL OFFENSES INCLUDING MISDEMEANOR AND FELONY CONVICTIONS WHICH MAY APPEAR ON YOUR RECORD. THIS INCLUDES MAJOR DRIVING OFFENSES. A conviction does not automatically disqualify you from employment. If you have any questions, contact a Personnel Department representative.

May I mail my application? Applicants are strongly encouraged to file applications in person. If you mail an application to this office, you MUST complete all other required employment criteria (references, initial interview, waivers, etc.) before the closing date of the posted position. It is the applicant's responsibility to complete all employment requirements and ensure this office has received all required documents by the closing date. Failure to do so will remove the applicant from consideration for the position.

Applications are not available on-line.

When will I be interviewed? If a position for which you are applying is available, the Personnel Office will conduct an initial questionnaire with you when you apply for Open positions. Normally not all applicants are selected for the hiring interview. Current, qualified County employees who apply for Open positions will be interviewed prior to external candidates.

This is not a guarantee of employment. Douglas County and the Douglas County Civil Service Commission reserve the right to modify, alter, and change the policies and procedures set forth in this process.
