Applications are active for six months from the date first filed. Current employees may not apply for positions during their probation period.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT JOBS I’M QUALIFIED FOR AND WHEN TO APPLY?

When a position becomes available, the Personnel Department posts an announcement for the position that contains a brief job description, required minimum experience, qualifications, licenses, certifications, etc. You must be certain your application is received in the Personnel Office by 4:00 p.m. on the closing date. WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER CHANGES?

Notify the Personnel Department immediately. We will make the necessary changes to your records. If we are unable to contact you because you have moved or changed your phone number, your name may be withdrawn from further consideration.

IF I’VE PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED AN APPLICATION, WILL I AUTOMATICALLY BE CONSIDERED FOR OTHER POSITIONS?

No. You must contact us for all positions you are interested in. Each position has specific requirements. You are not required to complete a new application for each position but must complete a screening questionnaire for each. Your application is valid for six months from the date first filed.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I FILE MY APPLICATION?

Following the closing deadline, each application is given careful consideration. The volume of applications received is generally large, and the screening process can take several days. We realize it can be frustrating, but please be patient. You are welcome to call the Department of Personnel at 402-444-6188 to inquire as to the status of a particular job vacancy.

WHAT ARE THE STEPS OR STAGES OF THE SELECTION PROCESS?

The aspects of the selection process vary depending on the position. Depending upon the position, you may be required to pass a written examination, typing test, or other tests. For other positions, a screening questionnaire completed by Civil Service and an interview by the hiring department may be all that is required.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM CALLED FOR AN INTERVIEW?

Be certain that you know where and when to report, who the interviewer is, and the position for which you are being considered. This is important if you have applied for more than one position. Be sure to obtain the name and phone number of the person who contacted you for the interview. Bring an additional copy of your resume or related materials to the interview.

WHAT POST-OFFER TESTS ARE THERE?

All new employees are required to successfully complete a drug test. Depending upon position, you may be required to undergo a back assessment or physical examination. For some positions, a criminal record check will be made.
