Direct Services Provided to Victims |

Follow-Up Contact: Victim Assistance Unit staff contacts crime victims to see if our letter was received and if any assistance is required.
Supportive Listening: Victim Assistance Unit staff serve as supportive listeners to victims/witnesses who want to discuss trauma involved with the crime.
Victim's Compensation: Medical and wage loss benefits are available to innocent victims who are injured as a result of criminal conduct. Depending on availability of funds, victims may be compensated for uninsured medical expenses, subject to criteria established by the Nebraska Crime Reparations Board. Victim Assistance Unit staff will assist victims with the filing of compensation forms.
Cell Phone Program: Cell phones are only issued to domestic violence and special circumstance victims. Phones dial 911 only.
Case Status Information: Upon request; Victim Assistance Unit staff will refer the victim/witness to the appropriate unit to provide him/her with a clear understanding of his/her case disposition.
Court Cases: Victim Assistance Unit staff will accompany victims to court, when the victim requests it. The staff will also assist victims of domestic abuse through the Order of Protection.
Agency Referral: The Unit will provide referrals to counseling facilities and community service agencies for victims with special needs.
VINE NEBRASKA: Victim Information and Notification Everyday. Toll-free number allows victims to obtain information on an inmate's status in jail or prison and to register to be notified upon the inmate's release.
