Leave
Safely
-
Every
situation is different. Contact your nearest local agency
for information on how to plan for safety. Leaving may be
dangerous for you and your children.
-
Put
some money away in a safe place where it will not be found;
at work, in a safe or with someone you can trust. Even if
you only save a little bit every week, you need to have
some money of your own.
-
Make
copies of important papers (birth certificates, marriage
license, social security, bank account numbers, legal documents,
medication, health cards, insurance information, food stamps.
Leave the documents with a trusted friend, neighbor, coworker,
clergy or family member. Have an extra copy of keys hidden
and accessible.
-
It
is important to have a plan to keep yourself safe - even
if you think you don't need it. NEVER underestimate
what your abusive partner may be capable of doing to you.
Assume
this person could become threatening or harm you.
