SPECIAL NOTICE: PENSION BOARD VACANCY
Retiree Vacancy on the Pension CommitteeThere will be a vacancy on the Douglas County Pension Committee by the end of this year for a retiree replacement. The committee would like any and all interested retirees willing to serve on the pension committee to submit their letter of interest. Please see below for information on the vacancy/letter of interest as well as a pension committee member job description. The Douglas County Employee Pension Committee is in the process of filling a vacancy on the committee with a representative from the Retiree Group. The Committee is responsible for monitoring of financial investments, the recommendation of pension plan changes to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the coordination of pension administration for eligible and non-retirement eligible employees.
The Pension Committee consists of the Chief Administrator of the County, the County Fiscal Administrator, the Human Resources Director of the Civil Service Commission, a Commissioner of the Douglas County Board, a retired County employee and a total of six (6) other representatives from various County departments.
In order to fill the current vacancy and to develop a pool of retirees who could be considered to fill future vacancies, the Pension Committee is searching for a retiree representative who would be interested in being a part of this important Committee, now and in the future. The Committee would like to establish a blend of management and non-management and retiree representatives. At this point in time we are looking for one retiree to fill the current vacancy.
To serve on the Pension Committee, you must be a current retiree from Douglas County and be receiving a monthly pension benefit from the Douglas County Employees’ Retirement Trust Fund. You also must have been an employee of Douglas County with at least five years of employment.
Interested individuals will need to be able to attend a monthly meeting usually held on the last Thursday of each month at 9:00a.m. in the Omaha Douglas Civic Center at 1819 Farnam Street – Room 903, and participate on subcommittees as determined to be necessary.
The interested individuals will need to submit their notice of interest by November 15, 2014.
Retirees should provide a brief statement of why they wish to be on the Pension Committee and how they feel they can best contribute in representing fellow retirees. Individuals must state their previous position and the Department/Office where they were employed.

The County Board approved the HELPS ACT for retired Deputy Sheriffs to pretax their medical, dental, long-term care and Medicare supplement premium payments from their monthly pension payments. There is a one-time setup fee of $25.00 which will need to be paid to the Douglas County Employees' Retirement Trust Fund. Any future changes or new setup plans will also require the one-time $25.00 fee. In order to have your qualified medical, dental, long-term care or Medicare supplement premiums deducted on a pretax bases from your monthly pension payments you will need to complete an Affidavit and Authorization form and Election designation form and return it to the Pension Department at 1819 Farnam Street, Suite 505 Omaha, NE 68183 attn: Kathy Adair. Below are the forms required to begin and setup the deduction process. We will need a minimum 45-day notice prior to the effective date to setup the premium deductions. The Douglas County Employees’ Pension Committee is made up of 11 members. One shall be a County Commissioner and one member from the retiree group. The other nine members are employees within the County employment.

NOTICE: PENSION COMMITTEE MEETINGS ARE THE LAST THURSDAY OF THE MONTH AT 9:00AM
The Pension Committee meets regularly on the last Thursday of each month unless otherwise approved by a majority vote of the Committee members. The meetings are located in the Civic Center, Room 903 at 9:00am and open to the public.
