As a constitutionally elected Sheriff, I recognize and accept that I have been given a special trust and confidence by the citizens and employees whom I have been elected to serve, represent, and manage.

This trust and confidence is my bond to ensure that I shall behave and act according to the highest personal and professional standards. I also accept the responsibility for encouraging others in my profession to maintain those same standards.

As Sheriff, it is my fundamental duty to:

• serve mankind
• safeguard lives and property
• protect the innocent against deception
• the weak against oppression or intimidation
• the peaceful against violence or disorder
• respect the Constitutional Rights of all persons to liberty, equality, and justice,
• insure those under the color of my authority, do the same.

I will have no compromise for crime and with relentless prosecution of criminals, I will enforce the law courteously and appropriately without fear or favor, malice, or violence and never accepting gratuities.

I recognize the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, and I accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of law enforcement.
