Clean out your medicine cabinet: Prescription Drug Takebacks Scheduled For Sept 25 & 26    PDF Flyer Prescription drug abuse is the fastest growing drug trends in the nation. Here in Nebraska, data from the Risk and Protective Factor Student Survey indicates that one in ten Nebraska teenagers have admitted to abusing prescription drugs at some point during their lifetime. 2009 data from the Nebraska State Patrol reveals that there were more fatalities from overdoses relating to prescription drugs than traffic accidents in Douglas & Sarpy Counties. Take the first step to ensuring your family is safe and bring your unused and expired medications to one of the prescription drug take back events scheduled for the weekend of Sept 25 & 26. On September 25 come to the Applewood HyVee at 96 & Q St from 10:00am to 12:00pm to drop medications. On September 26 medications can be brought to the AARP Information Center at 42nd & Center St from 12:00pm to 2:00 pm. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and local pharmacists will be on hand to accept the medications and properly dispose of them. All medications will be accepted, no questions asked. But we do ask that drug reps, pharmacists, and clinics refrain from dropping excess inventory at the event. Participating in this event is a safe and free way to dispose of prescription drugs in your home. Special thanks to HyVee, First National Bank, Ralston Public Schools, the LiveWise Coalition, Millard Public Schools, the Drug Enforcement Administration, UNMC Department of Pharmacy & Walgreens for assisting with such an important event in our community.  |
