The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Nebraska State Patrol and the Omaha Police Department, conducted a series of special selective enforcement activities on eight separate dates during June through August 2011, working a cumulative 68.75 overtime hours. The overtime was funded through a Nebraska Office of Highway Safety grant. Known as the Omaha Metro Safety Initiative (OMSI), the operations involved data driven enforcement activities, utilizing traffic enforcement strategies to reduce crashes while fighting crime through traffic violations and high visibility officer presence in pre-designated areas.
