The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Nebraska State Patrol and the Omaha Police Department, will conduct a series of special selective enforcement activities on various dates in October through December 2011. Known as the Omaha Metro Safety Initiative (OMSI), formed in 2008, the operations involve data driven enforcement activities, utilizing traffic enforcement strategies to reduce crashes while fighting crime through traffic violations and high visibility officer presence in pre-designated areas. Deputies participating in the enforcement activities will be paid overtime funded through a $10,000 Nebraska Office of Highway Safety grant.
