Medical Services

The medical department at the Douglas County Youth Center is responsible for maintaining the overall clinical health of all detainees admitted ranging from age 8 - 18.  It functions much like your typical pediatric clinic in addition to offering prenatal care and education, psychological crisis intervention, urgent care, and emergency services.

Baseline services provided include, but are not limited to, an in-depth clinical assessment, physical examination, x-ray and phlebotomy, dental and visual examination as needed, and medication review and administration.

The medical department acts as a liaison between detention and community outpatient services. We provide continuity of care by facilitating external medical appointments previously arranged, court ordered medical appointments and appointments initiated by our staff as a result of clinical findings.

The department’s clinical expertise ranges from neonatology to gerontology. Staffing is comprised of a consulting psychologist, physician assistant, 5 registered nurses, and a medical technician.  All staff is basic life support certified.
