For the past six years, Douglas County employees have participated in a county-wide food drive each holiday season.

Employees bring in canned goods and other non-perishable food items with the goal of helping local families in need while earning bragging rights for their respective departments. The department that collects the most items is recognized by the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and selects a local charity where the food will be donated.

The winners of the 2016 Douglas County Food Drive Challenge are:

First Place: 911 Communications

Second: General Assistance

Third: Assessor/Register of Deeds

Together, Douglas County employees donated more than 12,500 food items to Project Wee Care, Together Inc. and the Sienna Francis House.

"I am amazed at the caring and dynamite employees that were willing to donate so much food to assist our community and the families in need," said Mary Ann Borgeson, Chair of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. "This is truly a giving time of year and Douglas County employees have demonstrated that generosity."
